YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Flagler College took both ends of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from Young Harris College Sunday (March 5) afternoon at E.D. Rivers Field.
The Saints improved to 14-11 overall and to 2-0 after taking 7-1 and 5-1 wins over the Mountain Lions, who fell to 14-4 and 0-4. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (March 8) with a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader in Mars Hill, North Carolina, against Mars Hill University.
In the opener, Flagler took advantage of three YHC errors to build up a 7-0 lead through five innings. Young Harris got its run in the sixth on
Murphy Davis sacrifice fly.
Aubrey Crowell had two of the five hits surrendered by Flagler's Ally Marcano (11-3).
Jeanie Perrucci,
Biz Walters and
Hannah Harrison accounted for the other hits. Perrucci (7-1) suffered her first loss of the season.
In the nightcap, Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the second after
Kelsey Nix was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Flagler got the run back in the third inning after a bases-loaded walk. Maria Kappos's bases-clearing double in the fifth inning off YHC starter
Nikkie Kovalsky (7-3) gave Flagler a 4-1 lead.Â
Harrison led the Mountain Lions with two hits, including a double. Perrucci,
Jill Torres, and Crowell added hits for Young Harris.Â
Katelynn Smith (3-5) earned the complete-game win for the Saints.
