AUGUSTA, Ga. | Jeanie Perrucci tossed a no-hitter to highlight a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader sweep by Young Harris College over Augusta University Saturday (March 25) afternoon at Jaguar Field.
Perrucci (11-3) didn't allow a hit over five innings and struck out five as Young Harris took a 9-0 decision in five innings in the opener, before the Mountain Lions took an 8-0 victory in six innings in the nightcap.
The Mountain Lions won their eighth consecutive game as they improved to 27-7 overall and to 7-5 in the Peach Belt, while the Jaguars went to 7-31 and 2-8. Young Harris travels to Milledgeville, Georgia, Sunday (March 26) for a 1 p.m. PBC doubleheader against Georgia College.Â
It was the third no-hitter tossed by a Mountain Lion player since Young Harris began playing four-year competition in 2011. The last one was thrown by Darby Stanford during the 2014 season when she threw a perfect game in a 4-0 win over Miles College.
YHC took a 4-0 lead in the first inning as Hannah Harrison, Grace Botti and Kelsey Nix had RBI singles and Chandler Stooksbury added a sacrifice fly. Stooksbury gave the Mountain Lions a 5-0 lead in the third on her RBI double, Â Young Harris closed out the game early with a four-run fifth. Biz Walters drove in the first run on a single before Jill Torres smacked a three-run homer. It was her third of the season.
The Mountain Lions had 11 hits in the opener, including two apiece from Walters, Torres and Botti.
Nikkie Kovalsky (15-4) tossed a two-hitter and struck out seven in the game two win as the Mountain Lions scored in every inning, but one.
Murphy Davis started the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first before Georgia Webb added a RBI double an inning later. The Mountain Lions added two more in the third, before Young Harris scored three times in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. Walters had a two-run double in the fourth, while Davis added a run-scoring single. Pinch hitter Aubrey Crowell tallied an RBI single in the sixth to end the game early,
YHC again pounded out 11 hits in the nightcap, led by Walters' three hits.. Davis, Stooksbury and Webb had two hits apiece.
