MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team wrapped up play Sunday (Feb. 6) afternoon at the Bobcat Kickoff Tournament with a sweep over Albany State University.
The Mountain Lions won game one 4-0 before run-ruling the Golden Rams 15-3 in five innings in game two.
Young Harris improved to 4-0 while the Golden Rams fall to 0-4. Young Harris will play a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday (Feb. 10) against Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina.
Jeanie Perrucci (2-0) registered her second consecutive shutout of the season in the opener, allowing Albany State just two hits and striking out seven.
The Mountain Lions got single runs in the opening two innings off Albany State starter Aryn McGowan (0-2) to take a 2-0 lead.
Grace Botti had an RBI double in the first, while YHC took advantage of an error to score an unearned run in the second. Young Harris added two insurance runs in the fifth as Botti stroked a two-run single through the left side.
Perruci helped herself at the plate as she and Botti each pounded out two hits, while
Jill Torres accounted for the other YHC hit.
The Mountain Lions scored 15 times - nine runs in the first and six more in the second - over the first two innings in the nightcap.
Kelsey Nix  had a run-scoring single in the first, while
Georgia Webb added a two-run single.
Jill Torres clobbered a three-run home run in the inning to left-center field. It was her first of the season. As YHC batted around in the opening inning,
Hannah Harrison accounted for two RBI singles.
Webb added another run-scoring hit in the second ahead of
Chandler Stooksbury's two-run double to right-center field. Perrucci added a RBI triple to the left-center field gap and
Biz Walters drove in another on a groundout.
Nikkie Kovalsky (2-0) allowed two hits over four innings with three strikeouts for the Mountain Lions, while Taylor Clemens (0-1) didn't recorded an out for Albany State as she surrendered seven runs.
Young Harris had 14 hits in the nightcap with Webb leading the way with three. Perrucci, Walters, and Torres had two hits apiece.Â
