CENTRAL, S.C. | Young Harris College swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Southern Wesleyan University Friday (Feb. 10) afternoon at Varsity Field.
The Mountain Lions recorded their third shutout of the season in the opener with a 6-0 decision before taking the nightcap 7-1.Â
Young Harris improved to 6-0, while the Warriors fell to 1-7. The Mountain Lions return to action Saturday (Feb. 11) when they open their home schedule with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against North Greenville University at E.D. Rivers Field.
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the opener on
Chandler Stooksbury's two-run double to left field. Young Harris added three runs in the fifth to open up a 5-0 lead.
Murphy Davis started the scoring with a RBI single before
Georgia Webb stroked a two-run double. The Mountain Lions added an insurance run in the seventh on Davis' run-scoring triple to left-center field.
Jeanie Perrucci (3-0) earned the complete-game win as she scattered four hits and struck out five.
Biz Walters, Davis and Webb each had two hits in the 10-hit attack.
Jill Torres also had a double in the win.
The top three batters in the lineup collected seven of the 12 hits that the Mountain Lions clubbed in game two.
Hannah Harrison had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in three runs, while Perrucci and Walters had two hits apiece as Young Harris jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. Torres had two hits, while Webb added a double. Walters and Davis each drove in a run for Young Harris.
Nikkie Kovalsky (3-0) earned the win in the circle for the Mountain Lions as she struck out five while allowing just one earned run.
