Saints get past Mountain Lions

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Tabitha Odabe scored 18 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked five shots off the bench as Flagler College defeated Young Harris College 77-61 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Tuesday (Dec. 19) afternoon at Flagler Gym.

The Saints improved to 5-2 overall and to 3-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 4-7 and 1-3. Young Harris will break for the holidays and return to action Dec. 30 when they host Francis Marion University in a 1:30 p.m. PBC contest at the YHC Basketball Arena.

Flagler jumped out to a 13-4 lead on a Tiffany Hodge layup with 4:45 remaining in the first quarter, however, the Mountain Lions closed out the period on a 12-2 run to take a 16-15 lead on a jumper by Ashlyn Ellison with 48 seconds left. Ellison scored the final six points during the YHC outburst.

The game stayed close in the second quarter as Flagler took a 32-28 lead into halftime. The Saints scored seven unanswered points midway through the third quarter to break open the game and took a 45-35 lead on an Odabe layup with 2:48 to go.

The Mountain Lions got as close as eight points - 56-48 - with 7:48 remaining in the game on a three-pointer by Sara Jorgensen. Young Harris hit a season-high 10 three-pointers in the game. That would be as close as YHC would get as Flagler scored the next six points to open up a 14-point lead (62-48).

Bri Roberts added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Saints, while Rayven Wade added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Eryn Cochran and Ellison each led Young Harris with 15 points, while Sarah Garner posted a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jorgensen finished with 10 points.
