YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College scored three unanswered goals - two from
Mikie Rowe - as the No. 13-ranked Mountain Lions rallied past Francis Marion University 3-1 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 7) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions won their seventh consecutive match as they improved to 9-1-1 overall and to 4-0-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Patriots fell to 6-4-0 and 1-3-0. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 11) at 7 p.m. when they host No. 25-ranked Carson-Newman University.
After the teams battled to a scoreless draw in the first half, Francis Marion drew first blood when Jonas Dovland collected a loose ball at the top of the box and blasted it into the left side of the net at the 55:55 mark for his second goal of 2017.
Young Harris equalized the match at 1 seven minutes later.
Alex Jacq served the ball in from the right side and found Rowe at the far post. Rowe then headed the ball into the back of the net. Rowe followed that score at the 70:35 mark as he knocked in a rebound of
Carlos Gomez's initial shot from point-blank range that FMU goalkeeper Raul Guillamon Bejar couldn't fully corral the save. Rowe's sixth goal of the season gave YHC a 2-1 lead.
The Mountain Lions added an insurance goal eight minutes later as
Dani Fischer headed in
Macauley King's corner kick from the left side to give Young Harris a 3-1 lead.
The Mountain Lions held a 22-5 advantage on shots and a 7-1 margin on corner kicks.
Alex Iglesias had three saves in goal for the Mountain Lions, while Bejar collected seven saves for the Patriots.
