No. 13 Young Harris holds off No. 7 Limestone 2-1

GAFFNEY, S.C. | Young Harris College made two first-half goals stand as the Mountain Lions defeated Limestone College 2-1 in a non-conference men's soccer match between two nationally ranked teams Wednesday (Oct. 4) at Saints Field.

The No. 13 Mountain Lions, who are 5-0 all-time against Limestone, improved to 8-1-1, while the No. 7 Saints slipped to 6-2-2. Young Harris steps back into Peach Belt Conference action Saturday (Oct. 7) when they host Francis Marion University at 5 p.m. at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

Young Harris jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 16:27 mark as Carlos Gomez scored his team-leading six goal of the year. Dani Fischer played the ball ahead to Gomez, who beat his defender to the ball and then blasted the ball off the goalkeeper's hands.

Limestone took just over four minutes to equalize the match at 1. Ruairi Croskery crossed the ball in from the right corner to Dimitri Ney, who one-touched it into the lower right corner for his third goal of 2017.

The Mountain Lions reclaimed the lead at the 23:08 mark when Marco Micaletto converted a penalty kick. It was Micaletto's fifth goal of the season, including his second PK. The go-ahead goal was set up after Mikie Rowe was taken down in the box.

Young Harris held a 9-6 edge in shots, while the Saints had a 2-1 margin in corner kicks. Alex Iglesias had two saves in goal for the Mountain Lions, while Thomas Osborne had three for Limestone.
