PEMBROKE, N.C. | Stacey Scott's goal with 3:10 remaining in overtime gave the University of North Carolina at Pembroke a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 28) at Lumbee EMC Stadium.
The Braves improved 12-4-1 overall and to 7-2-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 9-5-1 and 6-3-1. Young Harris will be the No. 6 seed in next week's Peach Belt Tournament and will travel to St. Augustine, Florida, for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal match Tuesday (Oct. 31) against No. 3 seed Flagler College. UNCP earned the No. 4 seed in the eight-team tournament and will host No. 5 seed Georgia College in a quarterfinal match.
UNC Pembroke scored the deciding goal off a Kate Weisner cross from the right side that Scott headed into the upper right corner of the goal. It was Scott's seventh strike of 2017.
It was a defensive match as UNC Pembroke held a 9-6 advantage on shots, including just a 4-2 margin on goal. The Braves had a 9-2 margin on corner kicks over the Mountain Lions.
Nicole Medeiros had three saves in goal for YHC, while Gina Ryan collected two for UNCP.
