Mountain Lions end season with 1-0 overtime loss to No. 18 Flagler in PBC quarters

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Charlene Nowotny's goal midway through the first overtime gave the Flagler College women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Young Harris College in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Tuesday (Oct. 31) evening at Saints Field.

The 18th-ranked Saints, who are seeded No. 3 in the tournament, improved to 15-1-2 and will advance to Friday's (Nov. 3) 2 p.m. semifinal match in Evans, Georgia, where they will face No. 2 seed Columbus State University. The No. 6-seeded Mountain Lions, who had battled Flagler to a 1-1 double-overtime draw in September, end their season at 9-6-1. The nine wins ties last year's win total for Young Harris, which was making its second consecutive PBC Tournament appearance. The nine overall wins are the most since YHC won 10 matches in 2011.

Nowotny's 14th goal of the season came off a pass from Flo Fustagno inside the box and Nowotny was able to put it in the back of the net.

The Mountain Lions' best chance to score came midway through the first half on a penalty kick by Lucero Robayo, but  Flagler goalkeeper Sarah-Lisa Dubel saved the shot to her right.

Flagler outshot the Mountain Lions 15-9 and held a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks. Nicole Medeiros picked up fives saves in goal for the Mountain Lions, while Dubel had two for the Saints.
