No. 12 Young Harris earns PBC bye with 1-0 win over Hurricanes

AMERICUS, Ga. | Mikie Rowe scored in the 41st minute as the Young Harris College men's soccer team ended their regular season with a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern State University Wednesday (Oct. 25) afternoon at Hurricane Field.

The 12th-ranked Mountain Lions, who are ranked fourth in the Southeast region in the latest NCAA Division II regional rankings, improved to 11-2-2 overall and to 5-1-1 in the Peach Belt. Young Harris guaranteed itself a top-two finish in the league with the win and earned a bye in the first round of the Peach Belt Tournament. The Mountain Lions will next play in a semifinal match of the conference tournament Nov. 3 in Evans, Georgia. The Hurricanes slipped to 5-9-1 and 1-5-0.

The Mountain Lions, which outshot Georgia Southwestern 19-5 (5-3 on goal), got the goal they needed in the final minutes of the opening half. Seba Andreassen got the ball down the left side and flicked it back to Rowe at the top of the box. Rowe buried his team-leading eighth goal just inside the left post at the 40:37 mark.

Young Harris had a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks, but was unable to convert any set plays into goals. Alex Iglesias picked up fifth clean sheet of the season for the Mountain Lions as he stopped three shots in goal, while Joshua Swift turned away four for Georgia Southwestern.
