YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. |
Amanda Bartholomew scored twice to lead Georgia College past Young Harris College 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 21) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Bobcats improved to 9-5-0 overall and to 5-3-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 8-4-1 and 5-2-1. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 25) when they travel to Americus, Georgia, for a 1 p.m. PBC match against Georgia Southwestern State University.

Bartholomew, who leads the conference with 18 goals, gave Georgia College an early 1-0 lead as she took a through ball down the center of the field from teammate Unnbjorg Omarsdottir that deflected off YHC goalkeeper Nicole Medeiros, who had come to challenge at the top of the box. Medeiros wasn't able to hold onto the ball and Bartholomew was there to put the ball in the back of the net at the 17:17 mark.

Bartholomew doubled the Bobcat lead in the 63rd minute. Kai Jefferies collected a turnover in the backfield and played the ball across to Bartholomew on the left side. Bartholomew put the ball in the right corner of the net to give Georgia College a 2-0 lead.

Young Harris, which held a 16-12 advantage on shots (9-8 on goal), finally broke through at the 72:47 mark. Lucero Robayo scored from 12 yards out on the left side after taking a pass from Cristina Moreno at the top of the box. It was Robayo's sixth goal of the season.

Ashlee Graham recorded eight saves between the pipes for the Bobcats, while Medeiros collected six for the Mountain Lions,

The Mountain Lions recognized six seniors - Gabby Coumes, Levie Lines, Maria Martinez, Medeiros, Emily Ober, and Karly Zacharias - prior to the match.
