MORROW, Ga. | Maria Guzman's goal in the 37th minute was the difference as Young Harris College shut out Clayton State University 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 18) evening at Laker Field.
The Mountain Lions, who are ranked seventh in the Southeast region in the first NCAA Division II regional rankings of the season that were released earlier in the day, improved to 8-3-1 overall and to 5-1-1 in the league, while the Lakers fell to 5-7-0 and 2-5-0.  Six teams will be selected for the Southeast Regional that will be played on campus sites beginning Nov. 10. The finals will be played Nov. 30 and Dec. 2 in Kansas City, Missouri.

In the Southeast Region, the winners from the Peach Belt, South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas tournaments earn automatic berths while the other three teams will be at-large selections.
The Mountain Lions return to the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field Saturday (Oct. 21) at 3 p.m. where they will face Georgia College. Young Harris will honor its five seniors prior to the match at 2:45 p.m.
Guzman scooped up a loose ball just outside the box and Guzman lifted the ball into the top left corner of the net at the 36:17 mark for her first goal of the season.
Clayton State held a 17-16 margin shots although the Mountain Lions had a 11-9 edge on goal. YHC also had a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.Â
Nicole Medeiros collected nine saves for her seventh clean sheet of the season, including four in PBC contests. Jessa Charman had 10 saves for the Lakers.
