ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | C.J. Wilson and
Marcellus Roberts each scored 21 points to lead Young Harris College past Flagler College 90-79 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 7) afternoon at Flagler Gym.
Young Harris won its fifth game in a row as they improved to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Saints fell to 6-4 and 1-3. The Mountain Lions return to action Wednesday (Jan. 11) when they entertain Columbus State University in a 7:30 p.m. contest at the YHC Basketball Arena.
The Mountain Lions, which led all but 16 seconds, took control of the game in the first half as they jumped out to a 43-23 halftime lead. Roberts hit 7-of-9 shots from the field in the first half as he led Young Harris with 15 points, while Wilson tossed in 11 more. The Mountain Lion defense also was strong , holding the Saints to 24.2 percent (8-of-33) shooting from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
Young Harris, which held a dominant 70-42 advantage in the paint, took their largest lead - 24 points (54-30) - on a Wilson layup with 17:08 to play. The closest Flagler would get the rest of the way was nine points (88-79) with 34 seconds remaining.
"We were very good inside today," said YHC men's basketball coach
Pete Herrmann. "Marcellus and Corey were very good today inside and we kept feeding them the ball. We were very good defensively today, especially in the first half."
Wilson had a double double for the Mountain Lions as he dished out 11 assists, while Roberts grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Corey Nelson added 16 points and five rebounds while
Ben Waterhouse tallied 11 points.Â
Cortlin David led Flagler with 23 points and seven rebounds while Vaughn McCall (19), Chris Williams (11) and Jeffercy Jean (11) finished in double figures.Â
