YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College scored three first half goals as they handed Lee University a 3-1 decision in a non-conference men's soccer match Wednesday (Sept. 8) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-2-0 while the Flames fell to 1-2-0. Young Harris continues the homestand Saturday (Sept. 10) with a 3 p.m. match against Lincoln Memorial University.
YHC took a 1-0 lead at the 7:08 mark when
Carlos Gomez intercepted a pass from the Lee goalkeeper and blasted it in from the right side into the top left corner of the next. Gomez put the Mountain Lions up 2-0 15 minutes later as he scored his second goal of the season off a pass from
Josh Poole from the left side. Young Harris, which outshot the Flames 17-7, made it 3-0 when
Mikie Rowe added a sliding goal from the center of the box with 63 seconds remaining before halftime after a
James Thomas cross.
Lee got its lone goal on a penalty kick by David Perez at the 80:21 mark after a handball was called in the box.
Anton Viden earned the win as he stopped two shots in goal for the Mountain Lions.
