YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Lincoln Memorial University scored twice in a six-minute span midway through the first half as the Railsplitters held off Young Harris College 2-1 in a non-conference men's soccer match Saturday (Sept. 10) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Railsplitters improved to 3-1-0 while the Mountain Lions slipped to 1-3-0. Young Harris returns to action next Saturday (Sept. 17) when they open up Peach Belt Conference play with a 7:30 p.m. match against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida.
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead just 2:57 into the match.
Marco Micaletto crossed the ball to
Alex Jacq on the right side and he buried the ball into the left corner of the net from the top of the box. It was Jacq's first goal of 2016.
Danilo da Silva tied the match at 1 at the 14:19 mark on a give-and-go down the left side with teammate Victor Peres. It was da Silva's second goal of the year. The duo teamed up again at the 20:31 mark when da Silva crossed the ball to Peres in the box for a 2-1 lead.
Young Harris, which outshot LMU 12-8, had two chances to equalize late in the second half as Micaletto's shot from six yards out was turned away by LMU goalkeeper August Ahlin. Minutes later a goal by the Mountain Lions was disallowed on an offside call.
Anton Viden recorded five saves in goal for Young Harris, while Ahlin had three for the Railsplitters.
