ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Young Harris College began its defense of its three-time Peach Belt Conference men's soccer titles with a 2-0 victory over league-foe Flagler College Saturday (Sept. 17) evening at Saints Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-3-0 overall and to 1-0-0 in the Peach Belt while the Saints fell to 0-4-1 and 0-1-0. Young Harris travels to Montevallo, Alabama, Wednesday (Sept. 21) for a 7:30 p.m. Central time PBC contest against the University of Montevallo.
Young Harris, which outshot the Saints 11-0 in the first half, took a 1-0 lead at the 24:57 mark.
Alex Jacq served the ball from the left side of the field to
Sam Jones on the right side of the box. Jones headed the ball to
Mikie Rowe in the center of the box and Rowe headed the ball into the left corner of the net for his second goal of the 2016 campaign.
The Mountain Lions, who outshot Flagler 18-1 (9-0 on goal) in the match, doubled their advantage to 2-0 when
Marco Micaletto beat his defender and streaked down the left side of the box and from 10 yards out beat the Flagler goalkeeper and deposited the ball in the right side of the net at the 54:22 mark. It was Micaletto's first strike of the season.
