MONTEVALLO, Ala. | Liam Moore scored twice at the University of Montevallo rallied for a 2-1 double overtime victory in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match over Young Harris College Wednesday (Sept. 21) evening at Varsity Field.
The Falcons improved to 5-1-0 overall and to 1-1-0 in the league while the Mountain Lions fell to 2-4-0 and 1-1-0. Young Harris returns to action next Wednesday (Sept. 28) when they travel to Dahlonega, Georgia, for a 7:30 p.m. PBC contest against cross-mountain rival University of North Georgia in the Battle of Blood Mountain.
Young Harris, which outshot the Falcons 26-12 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, Â opened the scoring at the 73:03 mark when
Carlos Gomez netted his third goal of the season when he converted a unsuccessful clear by a Montevallo defender and knocked the ball into the left corner of the net.
The Falcons sent the game into extra time when Moore scored in with 6:31 remaining in regulation when he teamed up with Austin Petrovich and Oliver Cylkowski for the equalizer. Arad Lev Ari played the ball over the top to Moore with 3:25 remaining in double overtime. Moore, who took advantage of a YHC defender slipping, scored the match-winning goal from the top of the box as he put the ball in the upper left corner of the goal.
Robert Kuta recorded six saves for the Falcons while
Anton Viden had four in goal for the Mountain Lions.
