YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College and Pfeiffer University battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw in a non-conference women's soccer match Saturday (Sept. 10) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions, who played their second consecutive double overtime match, improved to 1-0-2, while the Falcons fell to 1-1-1. Young Harris opens its Peach Belt Conference schedule next Saturday (Sept. 17) when they travel to St. Augustine, Florida, for a 5 p.m. contest against Flagler College.
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead right before intermission.
Rachel Hill passed the ball back to
Amber Matthews at the top of the box and Matthews knocked the ball into the left corner of the net at the 44:05 mark. Pfeiffer tied the match at 1 just three minutes into the second half when Marcy Santana's strike from the top of the box couldn't be corralled by the YHC goalkeeper.
The Mountain Lions, who held a 29-9 advantage on shots (14-7 on goal), had three opportunities in the second half of overtime to score a match-winning goal.
Jordyn Brown's shot kissed off the crossbar and
Sydney Baird's attempt ricocheted off the left post.
Laisy Scardazzi's shot was also turned away by the Pfeiffer goalkeeper.
Nicole Medeiros had six saves in goal for the Mountain Lions while Kaley Hyatt had 13 stops for the Falcons.
