YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Georgia Southwestern State University scored twice in the seventh inning to edge Young Harris College 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday (April 30) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.

The second game of the doubleheader was canceled and will not be rescheduled after a two hour wait due to lightning and rain in the Enchanted Valley.

Georgia Southwestern ended their 2016 campaign at 25-24 overall and to 8-21 in the Peach Belt while Young Harris fell to 12-37 and 6-23.

The game turned into a pitcher's duel between Georgia Southwestern's Dylan Brown (5-1) and senior
Donald Frew (3-8) for Young Harris. Each pitcher hurled a complete game and combined to only allow 12 hits and struck out six in the game that lasted an hour and 59 minutes.

It was scoreless for the first six innings before the Hurricanes scratched two runs in the seventh. Davey King started the one-out rally with a single, moved to second on a ground out and over to third on Devyn Newberry's bunt single. Evan Alderman drove in the first run on his single through the right side.

The Hurricanes added their final run when Newberry scored from third base after Evan Alderman was caught stealing and stayed in the rundown long enough for the run to count.

The Mountain Lions battled back in their half of the inning.
Zach Beggs stroked a single up the middle to start the inning and moved over to second base on a passed ball.
Troy Kizer drove in Beggs with his double down the left field line. Kizer moved over to third base on a wild pitch, but Brown wiggled out of further trouble by getting the next two hitters to fly out.

Young Harris had four hits.
Nick Sexton and
Jimmy Pinakidis also collected hits for the Mountain Lions. Pinakidis had a double down the right field line in the second inning.

Frew, Pinakidis and fellow senior
Cody Beck were honored in pregame ceremonies.
