Trojans hold off Mountain Lions 6-3

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Xavier Peralta and Michael Rochester each drove in two runs as Anderson (S.C.) University held off Young Harris College 6-3 in a non-conference baseball game at Zell B. Miller Field Sunday (April 3) afternoon.

The Trojans improved to 16-21 while the Mountain Lions fell to 10-23. Young Harris will return to action Tuesday (April 5) with a 3 p.m. non-conference game against Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina.

Anderson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first without the benefit of a hit. The Trojans took advantage of two walks, a hit by pitch, a wild pitch and a throwing error to score the runs.

The Trojans added a run on Peralta's fielder's choice in the second. Peralta added a RBI ground out in the fourth to give Anderson a 4-0 lead.

Young Harris got a run back in the fifth on Triston Smith's sacrifice fly. Anderson made 6-1 on Rochester's RBI single in the seventh.

The Mountain Lions pushed across two runs in the eighth inning to get within 6-3 on back-to-back RBI singles by Zach Beggs and Troy Kizer. Young Harris mounted another rally in the bottom of the ninth as the Mountain Lions loaded the bases with no one out, but Brock Goodling, who recorded his 10th save of the 2016 campaign, got Luke Miller to fly out and Zach Wall to ground into a game-ending double play.

Sexton and Beggs each had two hits for the Mountain Lions, who had eight on the day.

Mitchell Cooksey (4-2) earned the win in relief for the Trojans while YHC starter Cody Beck (2-4) took the loss.
