YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College scored the first 18 goals of the match as the Mountain Lions recorded a 19-2 semifinal win over the University of Montevallo Friday (April 22) in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Women's Lacrosse Invitational Tournament.
The top seeded Mountain Lions improved to a program-best 12-5, surpassing last year's 11 wins, as they advance to the 1 p.m. championship match Sunday (April 24) where they will face No. 2 seed University of Alabama in Huntsville, which defeated Shorter University17-9 in the other semifinal. YHC defeated UAH 17-16 earlier this month. Montevallo ends its inaugural campaign with a 6-12 ledger.
Five different Mountain Lions –
Kendra Parenteau,
Erika Cross,
Nicole Kernohan,
Maddie Peek and
Rachel Lepine – found the back of the three times against the Falcons.
Katie McNutt and
Jaclyn Kernohan added two goals apiece.
Sarah Bialecki led Young Harris with three assists while
Katie McNutt and
Jaclyn Kernohan tallied two assists each.
Young Harris held advantages over Montevallo in shots (31-7), ground balls (18-13) and draw controls (17-6) as the Mountain Lions recorded their fourth consecutive win.
Meghan Tonnesen led the way for Young Harris with seven draw controls while Lepine had three, and
Taylor Lincoln and Cross had two more.
Jaclyn Kernohan scooped up four ground balls while Parenteau and
Kaylynn Roach had two each.
Julia Darroch (one) and Cater Moore (two) combined for three saves between the pipes for the Mountain Lions.
