Harrison, Davis lead Mountain Lions past Bearcats 9-2 in PBC quarterfinals

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Young Harris College used a pair of big innings en route to a 9-2 win Friday (April 22) afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament being played at Georgia College's Peeler Complex.

The No. 3 seed Mountain Lions improved to 32-17 overall and setting a College record for wins in a season (NCAA era) in the process, surpassing last year's 31 wins. Young Harris will face No. 7 seed University of South Carolina Aiken in an 11 a.m. semifinal game Saturday (April 23). USC Aiken upset the No. 2 seed Armstrong State University 5-3 in eight innings. Lander ended its first winning season since 2003 with a 26-21 ledger.

Hannah Harrison put YHC up 3-0 in the third inning with a three-run homer to right field, her sixth round-tripper of the season. Lindsay Tudor, who started the rally with a single, and Jeanie Perrucci, who was hit by a pitch by Lander starter McKenzi Ferguson (17-10), both scored on the long ball.

Young Harris stretched the lead to 4-0 in the fourth when Sarah Beth Marquis advanced home on a fielding error, then made it 7-0 in the fifth after Murphy Davis' RBI single scored Sarah Magill and Harrison, and Marquis drove in Davis with a single.

After Lander scored twice in the top of the sixth, he Mountain Lions concluded the scoring in the bottom half of the inning on Harrison's RBI double and Davis' RBI single.
The Mountain Lions collected nine hits with Harrison, Davis and Tudor each having two apiece. Harrison drove in four runs while Davis had 3 RBI.

Darby Stanford (25-5) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions after striking out four and allowing two earned runs on five hits in the complete game.
