MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The University of South Carolina Aiken hit four home runs as the No. 7 seeded Pacers eliminated No. 3 seed Young Harris College 11-3 in the semifinals of the Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament Saturday (April 23) afternoon at Georgia College's Peeler Complex.
The Pacers improved to 21-19 and will face either the University of North Georgia or the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the 4 p.m. title game Saturday (April 23). Young Harris fell to 32-18 and will now wait until May 2 to find out if the Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 6 in the latest regional rankings, will earn one of the five available at-large berths from the Southeast region to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
After USC Aiken scored an unearned run in the second, the Pacers took a 3-1 lead an inning later on Magan Thrower's two-run homer to left. Young Harris got a run back in the bottom of the third on a
Sarah Magill's single to right-center field.
The Pacers expanded their lead to 7-1 on Chandler Terrapin's grand slam down the left field line in the fifth inning. The Mountain Lions pushed across singles in the fifth and sixth innings to close the deficit to 7-3.
Hannah Harrison, who drove in five runs this weekend at the tournament, clobbered a RBI double to left-center in the fifth before
Georgia Webb used a RBI single to center in the sixth.
USC Aiken quelled the YHC rally in the top of the seventh as Sydney Kate Murphy and Taylor Morgan each connected on two-run homers to open up an 11-3 lead.
Young Harris had 10 hits in the game.
Jeanie Perrucci led the way with three hits while Magill added two more.
Morgan (17-12) earned the win for the Pacers as she struck out eight while
Darby Stanford (25-6) took the loss for the Mountain Lions.
