YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College swept a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader from Augusta University Wednesday (March 9) afternoon at E.D. Rivers Field.

The Mountain Lions, who improved to 16-6 overall and to 3-1 in the Peach Belt, scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to win the opener over the Jaguars, who fell to 8-22 and 0-6. Young Harris scored four times in the second inning in the nightcap to register a 5-2 decision.

Young Harris returns to action Saturday (March 12) when they travel to St. Augustine, Florida, for a 1 p.m. PBC doubleheader against Flagler College.

Augusta jumped to a 2-0 lead in the third inning of game one on a two-run single by Carolyn Edwards. The Mountain Lions responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Sarah Magill drove in the first run on a single and
Murphy Davis added a sacrifice fly.
Chandler Stooksbury put the Mountain Lions ahead when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Young Harris made it 4-2 an inning later on a RBI single to right-center by Davis; however, the Jaguars tied it at 4 on a two-run double to right-center field by Edwards.

Again the Mountain Lions responded in their half of the fifth as
Rachel Benson's sacrifice fly to left field put YHC up 5-4. Magill added an insurance run on her single to left field.

Jeanie Perrucci, Magill and Davis led the Mountain Lions with two hits, while Ashley Benton and Edwards had three hits each for the Jaguars.

Darby Stanford ran her record to 12-1 with her complete-game effort, striking out eight. Paige Deschaine (4-7) took the loss for Augusta.

The Mountain Lions erupted for four runs in the second inning of the nightcap off Augusta starter Emily Hittinger (1-5), highlighted by
Lindsay Tudor's two-run homer to right field. Stooksbury added an RBI single down the left-field line and Davis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Augusta got two runs back in the third as the Jaguars collected two of their three hits that Perrucci (2-4) – the YHC starter – allowed in the complete-game victory. She also struck out six.

Davis added an insurance run in the sixth on her triple to right field. Â

Seven different players had a hit for the Mountain Lions in game two.
