Mountain Lions tame No. 4 Bulldogs 21-7

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Nicole Kernohan scored five goals as nine different players scored in Young Harris College's 21-7 women's lacrosse victory over Tennessee Wesleyan College Thursday (March 17) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions snapped their four-match losing streak as they improved to 5-4, while the Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 4 in the latest NAIA national rankings, fell to 5-3. Young Harris will travel to Wise, Virginia, for a noon match Saturday (March 19) against the University of Virginia's College at Wise.

Tennessee Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead 28 seconds into the match on a Jasmine Hickman goal, but Young Harris scored seven of the next eight goals to open up a 7-2 advantage with 13:10 remaining in the first half. Nicole Kernohan, who leads the Mountain Lions with 27 goals this season, scored three of the goals while Kaylynn Roach added two tallies. Taylor Lincoln and Maddie Peek found the back of the net during the decisive run by Young Harris.

Young Harris took a 15-6 lead into the halftime and outscored the Bulldogs 6-1 in the second half.

Kendra Parenteau, who is second for the Mountain Lions with 23 goals, scored three times along with Lincoln and Peek. Katie McNutt and Kaylynn Roach each scored twice while Erica Cross, Sarah Bialecki and Jaclyn Kernohan had one goal apiece.

Parenteau led Young Harris with three assists while Bialecki and Cross had two apiece. Ivey Franklin, Nicole Kernohan, Lincoln, McNutt and Meghan Tonnesen each registered an assist.

Tonnesen led YHC with six draw controls while Lincoln had five. Franklin and Parenteau led with four ground balls apiece as the Mountain Lions scooped up 26 ground balls. Nicole Kernohan added three ground balls while Anna Lummus, Roach, Cross, Bialecki and Hannah Sacristan had two each.

Goalie Julia Darroch registered nine saves for the Mountain Lions.
