WINTER PARK, Fla. | Nick Breen collected four hits and drove in two runs as Rollins College spoiled the 2016 baseball opener for Young Harris College as the Tars picked up a 5-1 victory Friday (Feb. 5) evening at Alfond Stadium.
Rollins improved to 2-2 while the Mountain Lions fell to 0-1. The two teams play the middle game of their three-game set Saturday (Feb. 6) afternoon at 1 p.m. The game was moved up 60 minutes as the weather forecast has a threat of rain later in the day.
The Tars took a 2-0 lead in the second off YHC starter
Donald Frew (0-1) as Skip Kovar and Tyler Fairbanks each drove in a run on a ground out. Rollins took a 4-0 lead an inning later on Breen's two-run homer – his first of the season. Rollins added a run in the sixth on an infield single by Fairbanks.
Young Harris got to Rollins starter Isaiah Sakany (1-1) as
Zach Beggs led off the eighth with a home run – his first of 2016 – to right field. Sakany struck out seven and only allowed four hits in 7 2/3 innings. Matt Hendricks earned his first save as he shut out the Mountain Lions the rest of the game.
Chris McGinnis picked up two hits for Young Harris while
Casey Selfe had a sixth-inning double.
