Mountain Lions neutralize Tornados 24-7

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. |  Connor Leies scored six times and Garrett Blake added four more as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team picked up a 24-7 decision over Brevard College Saturday (Feb. 27) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
 
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-3 while the Tornados remained winless in four matches. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (March 2) when they entertain North Greenville University.
 
Young Harris, which held a 57-23 advantage on shots and a 41-27 edge in grounds balls, found itself down to 2-1 in the opening moments of the game, but the Mountain Lions took control of the match with five unanswered goals - including two from Leies – to open a 6-2 lead with 13:33 remaining in the first half.
 
The Mountain Lions, which won 27 of the 35 face-offs, led 11-6 at the half and then outscored the Tornados 13-1 in the second half.
 
Matty Ledon and Matt Spadafora each found the back of the net three times while Mitch McDole and Jayden Campbell each scored twice. Bruce Silk, Michael Gernatt, Ian Hurley and Connor Pittman each added a goal in the win. Gernatt and Silk assisted on three goals while Ian Hurley and Benji Lapinski had two each. Blake, Ledon and Leies added an assist.
 
Zach Stephenson won 14 face-offs while Zac Barrett had 13. Stephenson led the Mountain Lions with seven ground balls while Barrett, Alex Ashley and E.J. de la Torre each scooped up four apiece. Mason King (four), Ryan Pickowitz (two), Sean Dever (two) and Alex Schneider combined for eight saves in goal for Young Harris.
