YHC offensive attack grounds Bobcats 19-4

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College scored the first seven goals en route to a 19-4 women's lacrosse victory over Lees-McRae College in its home opener Saturday (Feb. 20) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
 
The Mountain Lions improved to 3-0 with their third consecutive impressive offensive attack while the Bobcats fell to 0-1. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Feb. 24) when they travel to Harrogate, Tennessee, for a 4 p.m. match against Lincoln Memorial University.
 
Young Harris, which held a 54-12 margin in shots, jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening 12 minutes of the match as Maddie Peek scored three times and Kendra Parenteau found the back of the next twice. After Lees-McRae scored three of the next four goals to get within five goals at 8-3, Young Harris reeled off nine unanswered goals to open a 17-3 lead on a Peek score with 8:03 remaining in the match.
 
Erika Cross led the Mountain Lions with five goals while Parenteau and Peek each finished with four goals. Nicole Kernohan and Kaylynn Roach scored twice for YHC, while Jaclyn Kernohan and Rachel Lepine accounted for the other goals. Sarah Bialecki, Jaclyn Kernohan, Parenteau and Peek each dished out two assists while Nicole Kernohan and Lepine each had one.
 
Parenteau led Young Harris, which held a 32-15 advantage, with five ground balls and Nicole Kernohan added four more. Roach, Peek, Lepine and Jaclyn Kernohan each scooped up three apiece. The Mountain Lions won 17 of the 24 draw controls with Meghan Tonnesen picking up seven while Parenteau added four.
 
Julia Darroch recorded six saves between the pipes in goal for Young Harris.
