NEWBERRY, S.C. | Young Harris College nine runs over the eighth and ninth innings to rally for a 17-10 non-conference baseball victory over Brevard College Saturday (Feb. 13) afternoon at the Newberry Round Robin held at the Smith Road Complex.

The Mountain Lions, which scored at least two runs in five different innings, improved to 3-1 while the Tornados fell to 4-3. Young Harris will face King (Tenn.) University at noon Sunday (Feb. 14) followed by a 3:30 p.m. contest against the host Newberry College on the final day of the event.

Brevard scored six times – highlighted by a bases-clearing triple down the left field line by Caleb Jones - in the bottom of the seventh to take a 10-8 lead.

The Mountain Lions didn't waste any time coming back as they posted four runs in the eighth as they took advantage of two Tornado errors. Pinch hitter
Jimmy Pinakidis drove in the first run on a fielder's choice and then tied the game at 10 on
Chris McGinnis' fielder's choice. The Mountain Lions took the lead for good at 11-10 when
Casey Selfe, who drove in four runs on three hits, stroked an RBI double down the right field line. YHC added an insurance run on a Brevard error.

After holding the Tornados scoreless in their half of the inning, the Mountain Lions got some breathing room as they scored five more times in the ninth to open up a 17-10 advantage.
Luke Miller had an RBI double while McGinnis and
Nick Sexton each drew a bases-loaded walk. Selfe drove in another run on an infield single while
Zach Odom closed out the scoring as he laced a two-run single to left-center field.

Every YHC starter, but one collected one hit in the 16-hit attack for the Mountain Lions and six hitters had at least two. In addition to Selfe,
Zach Wall had three hits. Sexton, Odom,
Zach Beggs and Miller had two hits apiece. Beggs, who led off the third inning with his second homer of the 2016 campaign, added three RBI while Odom, McGinnis and
Troy Kizer each drove home two runs. Selfe accounted for two of the six doubles the Mountain Lions recorded while Sexton, Wall, Beggs and Miller had the others.

Bryan Syphoe (1-0) pitched to one batter to wiggle out of further damage in the Brevard seventh to earn the win for the Mountain Lions, while Dalton McKee (0-1) absorbed the loss.
