YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Carly Rochelle's goal with 40.8 seconds remaining in double overtime gave the University of North Carolina at Pembroke a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Sunday (Oct. 30) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Braves improved to 11-3-2 overall and to 9-1-2 in the Peach Belt to earn the No. 2 seed in next week's tournament. Young Harris fell to 9-3-3 and 8-3-1 to earn the No. 5 seed in their first-ever PBC Tournament appearance. The Mountain Lions, who won a record eight league games, will face No. 4 seed Armstrong State University in a 7 p.m. quarterfinal contest in Savannah, Georgia, Wednesday (Nov. 2).
Stacey Scott collected a loose ball near the center of the field and played a through ball that found Rochelle. She then dribbled the ball to the right corner of the box and chipped it over the YHC goalkeeper. The ball deflected off the crossbar and into the goal  It was Rochelle's fifth goal of the 2016 campaign.Â
Prior to the goal, the Mountain Lions were the aggressors as they outshot UNC Pembroke 26-15 (14-8 on goal), despite playing the final 86 minutes a player down after a red card.
Lucero Robayo's shot in the first half hit the right post for the Mountain Lions, while
Sydney Baird's shot with nine minutes left in regulation careened off the crossbar. The Mountain Lions held a 6-2 advantage in shots in the overtime periods, including three shots on goal from
Marilla Lages in the second overtime.
Young Harris also held a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks while UNC Pembroke held a 23-11 advantage in a physical match.Â
Gina Ryan picked up the shutout in goal for the Braves as she collected 14 saves while YHC netminder
Nicole Medeiros had seven.
