SAVANNAH, Ga. | Armstrong State University defeated Young Harris College 2-0 Wednesday (Nov. 2) evening in a Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Tournament quarterfinal match at Armstrong State Soccer Field
The No. 4-seed Pirates improved to 12-3-2 this season and they advance to a 5 p.m. semifinal match against No. 1 seed Columbus State University at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Georgia. The No. 5-seeded Mountain Lions, who were making their first-ever appearance in the PBC Tournament after winning a college record eight league matches in 2016, ended their season at 9-4-3. The nine overall wins are the most since YHC won 10 matches in 2011.
Armstrong State, which held a 23-9 advantage in shots (8-4 shots on goal), took a 1-0 lead just before halftime on a header by McKenzie Anderson at the 40:54 mark off an assist by Taylor Snell. It was her second goal of the 2016 campaign.
Young Harris nearly tied the match in the opening stages of the second half, but
Laisy Scardazzi's shot at the 50:08 mark smacked off the crossbar.
The Pirates took a 2-0 lead at the 66:14 mark as Casey Couch slotted her first goal of the season off an Amanda Green cross in the box.Â
Lucero Robayo led YHC with three shots while
Elin Pedersen had two.
Sydney Baird,
Marilla Lages, Scardazzi, and
Emily Ober had a shot apiece.
Goalkeeper
Nicole Medeiros collected six saves for the Mountain Lions, while Erica Laurens registered the shutout for the Pirates as she had four.
