Records fall as Mountain Lions thwart Hurricanes 13-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College and the Peach Belt Conference women's soccer record books were rewritten Wednesday (Oct. 26) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field as the Mountain Lions picked up a 13-0 league victory over Georgia Southwestern State University.

The Mountain Lions, who remained No. 7 in the second NCAA Division II Southeast regional rankings released earlier in the day, continued their best-ever season since they joined the NCAA in 2011 as they improved to 9-2-3 overall and to 8-2-1 inside the conference, while the Hurricanes fell to 3-13-0 and 0-11-0. Young Harris wraps up its regular season Sunday (Oct. 30) at 1 p.m. when they host a key PBC match against the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The Mountain Lions will recognize their seniors prior to the match.

Young Harris set four different College records (NCAA era) - most goals (13), most assists (11), most points (37) and most shots (61) - in the victory. The Mountain Lions set new PBC standards (conference matches only) with 13 goals and nine goals in a half (second). YHC also tied the record for most assists with 11. Georgia Southwestern set the PBC record (conference matches only) for most saves with 30.

Four different players - Marilla Lages, Baylee Roche, Jordyn Brown and Lucero Robayo -  scored twice in the match. Amber Matthews, Olivia Goddard, Laisy Scardazzi, Emily Ober and Elin Pedersen accounted for the other Mountain Lion scores. Roche and Ober led the way with two assists, while Lages, Robayo, Matthews, Sydney Baird, Scardazzi and Krissy Kauffman registered an assist each.

Kylie Mason notched her third consecutive shutout for Young Harris as she stopped all three shots she faced.
