MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The Young Harris College offense came alive in the second half as the Mountain Lions scored twice in a 2-0 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over Georgia College Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon at Bobcat Field.
The Mountain Lions, who are seventh in the NCAA Division II Southeast regional rankings, won their third consecutive match as they improved to 7-2-3 overall and to 6-2-1 in the league while the Bobcats fell to 6-6-1 and to 3-6-0. Young Harris travels to Florence, South Carolina, Monday (Oct. 24) for a 4 p.m. PBC match against Francis Marion University. The match was originally scheduled to be played earlier in Oct., but was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew.
Young Harris only recorded three shots in the opening 45 minutes as the teams battled to a scoreless draw at the half.
Lucero Robayo got the scoring started  for the Mountain Lions in the 49th minute, working through the defense on the right wing and firing home a shot inside the far post. The goal was Robayo's fifth this season.
Young Harris, which had 13 shots in the second half, doubled its advantage in the 77th minute on Laisy Scardazzi's fifth goal of the 2016 campaign. The ball was entered into the box, knocked around by both offensive and defensive players a few times, and then shoved across by the YHC forward.
The Mountain Lions held a 16-11 advantage in shots and 4-2 lead in corner kicks. Kylie Mason, who was making her first start this season, picked up her first shutout with four saves, while Ashlee Graham picked up three in goal for the Bobcats.
