FLORENCE, S.C. | Carlos Gomez scored twice as Young Harris College recorded a 3-0 shutout over Francis Marion University 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Thursday (Oct. 20) evening at Murray Hartzler Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 7-6-0 overall and to 4-3-0 in the Peach Belt, while Francis Marion fell to 6-7-1 and 4-3-0. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 26) when they host Georgia Southwestern State University in a 6:30 p.m. league encounter at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Young Harris, which outshot Francis Marion 15-9, jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 4:27 mark on Gomez's first goal.
Alex Jacq, who leads the team with six assists, ran up the left side, passed the ball to Gomez, who knocked it in from 16 yards out.
The Mountain Lions added a goal 15 minutes later on a header from
Anthony Tshimpi, his third of the year. Gomez sent the ball down the right side of the field to
Mikie Rowe, who crossed the ball to Tshimpi in the box.
Gomez closed out the scoring at the 87:16 mark. Gomez, who leads YHC with seven goals in the 2016 campaign, took a short cross from the left side from Rowe, settled the ball in the box and blasted it in from 13 yards out.

Sebastian Thomsson picked up his first shutout of the season as he stopped three shots, while Jonathan Mannes had six saves for the Patriots.
