YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Laisy Scardazzi scored twice - including the deciding goal with just over 13 minutes remaining - to lead the Young Harris College women's soccer team to a 3-2 Peach Belt Conference victory over Clayton State University Tuesday (Oct. 18) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Young Harris improved to 6-2-3 overall and to 5-2-1 in the Peach Belt. The five league wins are the most by a Mountain Lion squad since YHC joined the PBC in 2012. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Oct. 22) for a 3 p.m. league encounter in Milledgeville, Georgia, against Georgia College.
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Young Harris scored twice in a four-minute stretch midway through the first half.
Lucero Robayo scored her fourth goal of the season off a rebound of
Marilla Lages' initial shot at the 16:49 mark. Scardazzi doubled the Mountain Lion advantage at the 20:40 mark on Scardazzi's goal. Â
Sydney Baird played a short corner to Robayo, who crossed it to Scardazzi at the far post. Scardazzi then ricocheted ball off the crossbar for the score.
Clayton State tied the match at 2 as they scored twice in a five-minute span early in the second half on goals by Maria Marti Bartis and Denisha Paskell. Young Harris regained the upper hand when Scardazzi scored on a free kick from 20 yards out after the Lakers were called for a foul just outside the box. It was her fourth strike of the 2016 campaign.
Young Harris and Clayton State each finished with 12 shots, although the Mountain Lions held a 6-3 advantage with shots on goal.Â
