GREENWOOD, S.C. | Lucero Robayo's goal with just over 12 minutes remaining was the difference for Young Harris College as they picked up a 2-1 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over Lander University Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium.
The Mountain Lions, who defeated the Bearcats for the first time in five tries in the series, improved to 5-2-3 overall and to 4-2-1 in the Peach Belt, while Lander fell to 3-8-1 and 2-5-1. The four PBC wins for the Mountain Lions are the most since Young Harris joined the league in 2012. The Mountain Lions had jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute.
Maria Martinez sent the ball in to a wide open
Marilla Lages in the box. Lages beat the Lander keeper and put the ball in the right corner of the net for her first goal of the season.
Lander equalized the match at 1 in the 38th minute off a free kick from 28 yards out by Kayla Walker. It was her third of the season.
Young Harris held a 22-10 advantage on shots, including a 9-2 edge in the second half. The Mountain Lions also held a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.
