MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College scored 12 unanswered points to start the second half as the Bobcats defeated Young Harris College 70-56 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday (Jan. 27) evening at the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats improved to 15-5 overall and to 7-4 in the Peach Belt while the Mountain Lions fell to 8-10 and 3-8. Young Harris stays on the road for a 1:30 p.m. league contest Saturday (Jan. 30) against the University of South Carolina Aiken in Aiken, South Carolina.

Young Harris led by as many as nine points (23-14) in the second quarter, but the teams were tied at the halftime at 29, The Bobcats hit five of their first seven shots to open the second half to take a 41-29 lead on a LaRice Walker layup with 5:41 remaining in the third quarter. GC forced four turnovers by the Mountain Lions and Young Harris missed its first four shots.

Georgia College pushed its lead out to 13 points (46-33) before the Mountain Lions closed the quarter with seven unanswered points – two
Keta Robinette free throws, a three-pointer from
Briana Bell and a
Sara Jorgensen jumper – to pull within six points (46-40).

Young Harris continued the rally in the fourth quarter as a
Meredith Tarver layup put the Mountain Lions within four points (46-42) with 8:05 to play. The Bobcats extended their advantage to 13 points (59-46) as they scored 11 of the next 13 points over the next three minutes. GC hit three three-pointers, including two deep ones by Veronica Ryan, during the run.

Walker and Kadesha Gibbs led the Bobcats with 16 points apiece while Gibb pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. McKenna Rushton added 11 points while Ryan tossed in 10.

Jenny Vernet led the Mountain Lions with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Tarver added 11 points. Bell tossed in nine points while Jorgensen contributed eight.
