Simpson scores twice in 4-0 shutout over Anderson (S.C.)

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Jake Simpson scored two goals as the Young Harris College men's soccer team picked up a 4-0 shutout over Anderson (S.C.) University Wednesday (Sept. 30) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 21 in the latest NSCAA NCAA Division II Top 25 poll, improved to 7-1-0 while the Trojans fell to 3-4-1. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (Oct. 6) when they travel to Gaffney, South Carolina, for a 5 p.m. match against No. 9 Limestone College. The contest will be a rematch of last year's third round match of the NCAA Division II Tournament that YHC won 3-1.

Simpson gave Young Harris, which outshot Anderson 16-3, a 1-0 lead in the waning moments of the first half. Carl Brannstrom sent the ball into Simpson in the box and Simpson put the ball in the back of the net from six yards out. Simpson scored his second goal of the match and the season at the 58:02 mark to give the Mountain Lions a 2-0 lead. Tom Joslin sent the ball in the box to Simpson from the left side and Simpson knocked it into the right corner of the net.

Paco Craig chipped the ball to a racing Macauley King in the box for the Mountain Lions. King, who has two goals this season, beat the Anderson keeper and knocked it into the left corner of the net at the 78:21 mark. Sam Choi closed out the scoring for Young Harris as he scored from 10 yards out after Mikie Rowe passed the ball in from the right side at the 85:31 mark. It was Choi's first strike of 2015.

Anton Viden earned the shutout for the Mountain Lions as he picked up two saves. Devon Ashy stopped six shots for Anderson.
