No. 19 Mountain Lions shut out No. 21 Saints 2-0

GAFFNEY, S.C. | The Young Harris College men's soccer team scored twice in the second half as the No. 19 Mountain Lions recorded a 2-0 shutout over No. 21 Limestone College in a non-conference match Tuesday (Oct. 6) afternoon at Saints Field.

This was a rematch of last season's third round match of the NCAA Division II Tournament that Young Harris won 3-1. The Mountain Lions improved to 8-1-0 with their fifth consecutive win, including the past two by shutout, while the Saints slipped to 6-3-0. Young Harris steps back into Peach Belt Conference action Saturday (Oct. 10) with a 7:30 p.m. contest against Francis Marion University at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The teams battled through a scoreless first half before Jake Simpson gave Young Harris a 1-0 lead at the 56:50 mark. Simpson scored his third goal in the past two matches off a shallow cross from the left side by teammate Tom Joslin to Simpson in front of the goal. Simpson then put the ball in the top corner of the net.

Joslin played a part of the Young Harris insurance goal. Joslin drove the left baseline and sent a cross into the box that deflected off a Limestone defender and into the net for a 2-0 lead at the 73:35 mark.

Young Harris held advantages in shots (10-7), shots on goal (5-1) and corner kicks (7-5) over Limestone. Young Harris goalkeeper Jordan Bradshaw stopped one shot as he notched his second shutout of 2015 while Tom Godfrey had three for the Saints.
