Mountain Lions edged by Pacers 3-2

AIKEN, S.C. | The Young Harris College women's soccer team were edged by the University of South Carolina Aiken 3-2 in a Peach Belt Conference match at the Pacer Pit Wednesday (Sept. 23) afternoon.

The Pacers improved to 1-5-0 overall and to 1-1-0 in the Peach Belt while the Mountain Lions fell to 1-3-0 and to 0-2-0. Young Harris, which has lost each match by a goal this season, will return to action Saturday (Sept. 26) at 5 p.m. when they travel to St. Augustine, Florida, for a PBC match against Flagler College.

Young Harris jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Sydney Baird scored her first goal of the season from 15 yards out off a pass from the left side from Olivia Goddard at the 10:18 mark. The Pacers tied the match at 1 on an unassisted goal from Hazel Kelley nine minutes later. Back-to-back goals from Hannah Allison push USC Aiken to a 3-1 lead at the 39:06 mark.

The Mountain Lions wasted little time in the second half – just 64 seconds – to pull within a goal at 3-2 when Emily Ober scored her team-leading third goal of the season off an assist from Carly Rich.

YHC goalkeeper Arielle Charles recorded five saves while Karin Cadwalader had one stop for the Pacers.
