Mountain Lions fly by Stormy Petrels 3-1

ATLANTA Emily Ober scored twice as the Young Harris College women's soccer team defeated Oglethorpe University 3-1 in a non-conference match Monday (Sept. 14) evening.

The Mountain Lions improved to 1-1-0 overall while the Stormy Petrels fell to 0-2-0. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Sept. 19) as they open its home schedule at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field with a 5 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match against cross-mountain rival University of North Georgia.

Young Harris, which outshot the Stormy Petrels 25-11, struck three times in a seven-minute stretch midway through the first period to break open the match. Ober tallied her first goal at the 11:54 mark on a header after a cross from the right side from teammate Carly Rich.

The Mountain Lions doubled their lead to 2-0 when Amber Matthews converted the first YHC penalty kick of the season nearly six minutes later.  Ober scored her second goal at the 18:32 mark on a breakaway down the middle after a Matthews pass.

Oglethorpe added its goal in the 32nd minute on an Emily Silva rebound, but the Stormy Petrels wouldn't get any closer. Arielle Charles recorded four saves in goal for Young Harris while Sarah Craig and Bailey Evans teamed up for 10 saves in net for Oglethorpe.
