Mars Hill upsets No. 3-ranked Mountain Lions 1-0 in overtime

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Christian McArthur's overtime goal propelled Mars Hill University to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Young Harris College Sunday (Sept. 13) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Lions improved to 1-2-0 while the No. 3-ranked Mountain Lions fell to 3-1-0. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Sept. 19) when they open its Peach Belt Conference schedule with a 7:30 p.m. match against cross-mountain rival University of North Georgia at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

Young Harris outshot Mars Hill 22-7 in the match, but could not find the back of the net. The Mountain Lions' best chance to score came with 10 minutes remaining in regulation when Josh Poole's shot ricocheted off the crossbar.

Mars Hill's game-winner was set up after the Mountain Lions were whistled for a high kick in the box with 3:33 remaining in the first overtime period. On the ensuing indirect kick from 12 yards out just to the right of the goal, Stian Sanner touched the ball to McArthur who knocked the ball into the upper left corner of the net.

MHU goalkeeper Connor Talbot had nine saves while Anton Víden recorded four for the Mountain Lions.
