YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday (April 11) afternoon at E.D. Rivers Field.
The Mountain Lions shut out the Hurricanes 6-0 in the opener before taking game two 13-4 in five innings.
Young Harris improved to 28-12 overall as they captured its sixth win in a row. The 28 wins are the most in a season for the Mountain Lions since the program became a four-year institution. The Mountain Lions are in fourth place in the league at 13-5 as they enter the final two 10 days of the regular season. Young Harris will host Lee University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday (April 14). Georgia Southwestern fell to 15-27 and 2-14.
Young Harris took a 4-0 lead after the second inning in game one as Georgia Webb smacked a two-run homer to right field in the first while Stacia Williams contributed her own two-run homer to left field in the second. Jeanie Perrucci added an RBI single in the sixth while Sarah Magill drove in the final run with a double to right-center field.
Darby Stanford (17-4) recorded her third shutout of the season while Haley Goodson (4-13) took the loss.
Perrucci paced the Mountain Lions with three hits while Sydnee Weaver and Webb each collected two hits.
Young Harris scored five runs in the first and fourth innings in the nightcap.
Sarah Beth Marquis led the Mountain Lions with 4 RBI, including two on a first-inning double to left-center field that gave Young Harris the lead for good at 4-2. Marquis also stroked a two-run double in the fourth.
Weaver, Perrucci, Webb, Marquis and Stacia Williams each collected two hits. Williams also drove in three runs, including two on a fifth-inning single.
Perrucci (10-6) earned the win for the Mountain Lions while Brittany Childs (5-4) took the loss.
