PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Amanda Kernohan, Katie McNutt and Alexia Audet each scored four goals as the Young Harris College women's lacrosse team started their spring break trip with a 23-9 decision over Alderson Broaddus University Monday (March 9) afternoon at Battler Stadium.
The Mountain Lions improved to 5-1 while the Battlers fell to 1-2. Young Harris will continue its trip Wednesday (March 11) when they face the University of District of Columbia in a 3 p.m. match in Arlington, Virginia.
Young Harris took control of the match as they scored six unanswered goals in an eight-minute span by six different players – Amanda Kernohan, Rachel Lepine, Jordana Freitas, Taylor Lincoln, Nicole Kernohan, and Audet – to open up a 7-1 lead after Audet scored with 17:49 remaining in the half.
The Battlers closed to within five goals (9-4) with 10:13 left in the half, but the Mountain Lions reeled off eight unanswered goals to open a 17-4 lead on a Nicole Kernohan strike with 19:49 to go in the match.
Lepine finished with three goals, while Jordana Freitas and Nicole Kernohan added two apiece. Kendra Parenteau, Anna Kate Dulaney and Jaclyn Kernohan each found the back of the net once. Amanda Kernohan tallied four assists while McNutt added three. Audet, Ivey Franklin and Parenteau also added an assist.
Meghan Tonnesen, Lepine and Jaclyn Kernohan collected three draw controls each while Lincoln had two. Lepine and Dulaney each scooped up three ground balls while Lincoln and Audet had two each.
Goalie Sara Nudelman collected eight saves in net for the Mountain Lions.
