Magill, Perrucci lead Young Harris to sweep of West Georgia

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from the University of West Georgia Wednesday (March 25) afternoon at E.D. Rivers Field.

The Mountain Lions rallied for the fifth time in their final at-bat at home this season to pick up a 5-4 decision in a game one while Jeanie Perrucci tossed a 3-0 shutout in the nightcap.

Young Harris improved to 20-8 overall while West Georgia fell to 12-19. The Mountain Lions step back into Peach Belt Conference action Saturday (March 28) when they travel to Savannah, Georgia, for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Armstrong State University.

Perrucci (7-4) scattered three hits in the complete-game effort as she recorded her second shutout of the season. Perrucci only allowed three UWG runners to reach second base.

Perrucci got all the offense she needed in the bottom of the first when Murphy Davis led off with a double to center off UWG starter Danielle Easterly (5-9). Perrucci sacrificed her to third before Davis scored on a Sarah Magill's sacrifice fly to right.

The Mountain Lions added two insurance runs in the sixth on RBI double by Perrucci to left and a run-scoring single by Magill through the left side.

Trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the sixth in the opener, Davis started the two-out rally with a single up the middle  and Perrucci reached after being hit by a pitch from UWG starter Katie Turner (3-4). Magill, who leads the Mountain Lions with 43 RBI, stroked a two-run double to left to give the Mountain Lions a 5-4 lead.

YHC starter Darby Stanford (12-2) got the Wolves to go down in order in the seventh to preserve the win.

Magill led the Mountain Lions with three hits and drove in five runs in the sweep.
