YHC earns berth to Peach Belt Tournament despite loss to Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Despite suffering a 74-66 loss to the University of Montevallo Wednesday (Feb. 25) evening at Trustmark Arena, Young Harris College earned a berth to the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Mountain Lions, who finished the regular season at 12-13, earned the No. 4 seed from the PBC West Division with a 9-10 league record. The Falcons (21-8) earned the No. 1 seed from the PBC West Division with a 17-2 conference ledger. Young Harris will face Georgia Regents University Augusta – the No. 1 seed from the East Division – in a 7 p.m. quarterfinal game Saturday (Feb. 28).

"I think it's a tremendous tribute for us to rise from the bottom of the league (at the end of January) and get into the tournament," said YHC head coach Pete Herrmann.

Young Harris jumped out to a 15-8 lead after a Herdie Lawrence three-pointer with 14:56 left in the first half. However, the Falcons responded with a 24-5 run to open up a 32-20 lead on a jumper in the paint by Troran Brown with 7:14 to play in the half.

Montevallo, which led 41-33 at the half, led by as many as nine points (60-51) on a Bryant Orange layup with 9:11 to play., but the Mountain Lions whittled the lead down to two points (66-64) as Isaiah Johnson hit the front end of two free throws with 3:43 remaining.

Montevallo scored on its next three possessions to open up a 72-64 lead on an Orange layup with 2:11 left. 

C.J. Wilson led the Mountain Lions with 17 points and six rebounds while Kevin Altidor added 16 points and 15 rebounds. Johnson finished with 12 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Brown led Montevallo with 21 points while Malik Fields added 14. Orange added 10 points for the Falcons.
