Wilson's buzzer beater gives Mountain Lions 64-61 win over Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – C.J. Wilson scored the game's final five points including the game-winning three-point shot at the buzzer as Young Harris College recorded a 64-61 Peach Belt Conference men's basketball victory over Georgia College Wednesday (Feb. 11) evening at the Centennial Center.

The Mountain Lions – winners of their last four games – improved to 9-12 overall and to 6-9 in the league, one game out of fourth place in the PBC West Division with four games remaining in the regular season. The top four teams from each division qualify for the PBC Tournament later this month. Young Harris returns to the YHC Basketball Arena Sunday (Feb. 15) for a 4 p.m. PBC contest against No. 21 Columbus State University.

The game saw 10 ties and 14 lead changes and neither team hold more than a six-point lead at any stretch.

Terrell Harris gave Georgia College its final lead of the game at 61-59 on a jump shot with 40 seconds remaining. After Wilson missed a jumper for the Mountain Lions on their next possession, the Bobcats had a chance to stretch their lead even further but Rio McMillan missed both free throws with 24 seconds left.

YHC got the rebound and Wilson knotted the game at 61 on a layup six seconds later. Georgia College had a chance to retake the lead but Harris missed a layup and Ben Waterhouse grabbed the defensive rebound with four seconds left and found Wilson, who sank a running three-pointer jumper at the buzzer for the win.

"It was a good team win as everyone contributed," said YHC head coach Pete Herrmann. "We got the big rebounds when we needed them tonight. Ben got a big rebound after they missed two free throws and he made a nice pass to find C.J. in stride.

"Kevin and Bjorn's rebounding on the glass helped us overcome some poor shooting," said Herrmann. "Herdie also had a good second half for us."

Bjorn Walker led four YHC players in double figures with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Wilson finished with 14 points while Kevin Altidor and Herdie Lawrence each added 13. Altidor also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Larrentis Thomas led the Bobcats with 24 points and 13 rebounds while Harris added 22 points.
