Young Harris, Clayton State battle to 1-1 double overtime draw

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College and Clayton State University battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 28) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 4-9-1 overall and to 2-7-1 in the conference, while the Lakers went to 9-7-1 and 5-5-1. Young Harris closes out the 2015 season Saturday with a 1 p.m. Senior Day match against the University of Montevallo.

Clayton State took a 1-0 lead on a Denisha Paskell penalty kick at the 38:14 mark after YHC was whistled for a handball in the box.

Young Harris had a chance to tie the game on a penalty kick of its own in the early moments of the second half, but Amber Matthews' shot went wide right. However, the Mountain Lions, who outshot Clayton State 7-1 in the second half, scored minutes later to tie the match at 1 on Emily Ober's team-leading ninth goal of the season at the 58:47 mark. Ober's strike was slotted in near the far post after teammate Carly Rich sent the ball in from the right side.

Clayton State held a 14-13 advantage in shots, but the Mountain Lions held a 10-7 margin on goal. Clayton State goalkeeper Charlotte McCormack had nine saves while Arielle Charles corralled six.
