Eagles edge Mountain Lions 2-1 in double overtime

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Julianne Herrity scored twice as Carson-Newman University edged Young Harris College 2-1 in double overtime in a non-conference match Wednesday (Oct. 14) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Eagles improved to 10-2-0 while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-7-0. Young Harris returns to Peach Belt Conference action Saturday (Oct. 17) when they travel to Americus, Georgia, for a 1 p.m. match against Georgia Southwestern State University.

Young Harris jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Amber Matthews headed the ball in off a Sydney Baird corner kick from the right side at the 13:17 mark. It was Matthews' third strike of the season.

Herrity, who has nine goals for the Eagles, tied the match at 1 seven minutes later as she collected a loose ball at the top of the box and knocked the ball into the left corner of the net.

It would stay that way until the second overtime as Young Harris goalkeeper Arielle Charles stopped 10 shots. Heida Ragney sent the ball to Herrity in the box at the 102:41 mark and Herrity put the ball into the top left corner of the net.

Jessica Fraiture recorded two saves for the Eagles.
