No. 11 Mountain Lions defeat Barry 3-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College registered a 3-1 win over Barry University Sunday (Sept. 7) afternoon  in a non-conference men's soccer match at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 1-0-1 while the Buccaneers fell to 1-1-0. Young Harris will hit the road for the first time Wednesday (Sept. 10) when they travel to Mars Hill, North Carolina, for a 5 p.m. match against Mars Hill University.

Young Harris took a 1-0 lead on Ilija Ilic's header at the 19:21 mark. Ilic's first goal of the year was set up as André Johansson sent the ball into the box from the right side. The Mountain Lions, who outshot the Buccaneers 18-6, doubled their lead on Paco Craig's header at the back post on a set piece off a Lewis Hilton corner kick at the 55:35 mark.

Barry got a goal back as Frank Lustig converted a penalty kick 12 minutes later after a Young Harris player was whistled for a handball in the box. However, six minutes later the Mountain Lions got the goal back as Hilton blasted his first goal from the top of the box off an assist from Khurram Shazad to open a 3-1 advantage.

Young Harris goalkeeper Jordan Bradshaw tallied two saves while Robby Shearer collected six for the Buccaneers.
